Recruiting for the 2018-2019 service year starting on August 6th, 2018

This member will serve at Pond Gap & Inskip Elementary Schools. The UACS program offers academic engagement programs , social support, mental and physical health supports for students, their family members or any members of the broader Pond Gap community. Central to the UASC mission is the community garden on site. This initiate is dedicated to address hunger and food accessibility in the Pond Gap neighborhood. Through previous AmeriCorps VISTA efforts, the school garden at Pond Gap Elementary increased accessibility to health food and nutrition education though opportunities such as in-and after school garden programming, family work-shares, and garden-to-cafeteria production. The garden now serves 350 students; its success had directly led to the developing garden at Inskip Elementary.

We will be hiring 1 members to support the the University of Tennessee’s University Assisted Community Schools (UACS) operations for the 2017-2018 service year.The AmeriCorps member will orient management of the school gardens through volunteer recruitment, develop garden-based curricular activies and create strageties to improve the garden’s function as an access point to healthy foods.
