food4VOLS Program – UTK

About food4VOLS Program:

food4VOLs is a food recovery program on the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus. The Program recovers excess prepared food from outlets on campus, and creates ready to heat meals with the food. The meals are distributed to an on-campus food pantry and any excess food is sent to non profits in the area. In 2023, the program rescued over 160,000 pounds of food, prepared over 50,000 meals, and gave over 100,000 pounds of food to non profits all to end hunger on campus and in the community.

Position Summary:
  • Oversee daily volunteers for meal production
  • Oversee refilling of food4VOLs coolers with meals at multiple locations
  • Create a hunger awareness campaign and assist with website development and social media content
  • Attend campus hunger related events
  • Assist with collection of food from campus outlets
  • Oversee a summer kids meal program guided towards low income families
  • Enter data from daily production, collection, and volunteer hours
  • Produce monthly reports for partners

The member(s) in this position will have the opportunity to gain the following skills/credentials:

  • Social media content creation and management
  • Volunteer management
Site Preferences/Qualifications:
  • Ability to drive a van
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to create and manage social media content
  • Ability to plan ahead
  • Ability to manage/ lead multiple people
  • Food safety certification preferred (but willing to train as needed)
  • Previous work experience with food preparation or food pantries preferred
